Language Arts: Poetry with a grammar focus
Week 1: This week we introduced stanzas and the concept of rhyming and rhythm in poetry.
Week 2: This week the students progressed at their own pace through their poetry packets as they learned about the use of adjectives and verbs in poetry.
Week 3: This week the students continued to progressed at their own pace through their poetry packets as they began to publish some of their own poems.
Week 4: Students looked into onomatopoeia and how they can be used in poetry.
Week 5: We continued to work on poetry by adding in alliteration and more rhyming.
Week 6: We finished up our unit on poetry by creating our own personal poetry portfolios.
Reading - Poetry for Kids
Science and Social Studies: Planets (Chapter 8) and Matter (Chapter 9) and biographies.
Week 1: This week we read through the biography of Leonardo Da Vinci together and reviewed timelines and important events.
Week 2: This week students finished reading their own biographies and presented them in a poster format.
Week 3: This week we started our new unit on Space, as the students learned about the solar system and why each season comes when it does.
Week 4: We worked on class projects such as our solar system rap to tie the unit together.
Week 5: We concluded our unit on stars and the solar system.
Week 6: We began our unit on matter and learned the various properties and states of matter.
